It can be confusing understanding the complex legislation and ‘grey’ areas surrounding what is expected of building owners. However, building landlords or tenants have a duty of care to ensure the building is in good and safe working order. As such, all electrical installations need to be maintained to a safe condition and require routine inspections.
Electrical services and systems that conduct electricity around a building require ‘Fixed Testing’ whilst portable appliances such as kettles require ‘PAT testing’. By conforming to these regulations and standards, employees can be protected on an ongoing basis from any harmful equipment. Regular service visits also help to reduce maintenance costs by preventing any major faults with any onsite electrical equipment. This is also a great way to keep insurance rates at a minimum.
Additionally, as many retail units have been operating with reduced capacity throughout a rather disruptive year for trade, some businesses may have slowed their property maintenance schedule or stopped all together. However, even if your property is closed there is still statutory compliance to be completed, particularly ahead of reopening. Regardless of how many people are working within your building, electrical systems must be compliant and up to date with planned preventative maintenance particularly as electrical faults are one of the main causes of fire.
As an approved Inspection and Testing Company of the NICEIC (an independent voluntary regulatory body for electrical installation safety matters in the UK), Mclennan Group provide Electrical Testing Compliance solutions to Brandon Hire across over 200 sites. Key services include Electrical Installation Conditioning Reports (EICR) on installations such as electrical wiring, circuits and connections on the entire electrical systems within each Brandon Hire site.
The results of the inspection and testing as well as any damage, wear and tear or any parts that do not meet regulations are recorded and remedial actions put in place via client liaison. The record of the installation and inspection details are then kept for future inspection testing. All records can be quickly accessed by all of our clients on the easy-to-use McLennan Portal. As per the regulation BS 7671 18th edition, testing will be carried out every five years or 20% annually by our team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals.
Ongoing support and maintenance will also be provided to Brandon Hire to ensure optimal use of all equipment and systems. Our dedicated account managers and quality control managers are equipped to fully manage the compliance solutions on the behalf of Brandon Hire to ensure peace of mind for the client. We’re looking forward to working with Brandon Hire to ensure compliant and safe workplaces and retail spaces over the next few years.
McLennan offers a 20% test along with 100% visual inspection every year, giving you peace of mind that your electrical systems are not only safe but fully compliant.
