Waste & Recycling
Renovation & Office Refurb
WARS Preston
The two storey office block attached to the recycling plant provides a working space for the employees of WARS recycling. The original offices were outdated and in a general poor condition. The block required stripping back to basics and future-proofing for the ever-evolving landscape of waste management.
The existing electrical switch panel in the office block was damaged beyond repair and needed replacing, however the panel was fed by the utilities high voltage transformer which was positioned off-site. This required liaison with the utilities company to isolate the supply and reconnect upon task completion with minimal impact to the client’s operations.
The £220k project began at the beginning of October 2020, responding to the business’ new demand for updated functional meeting rooms, completely accessible facilities and flexible spaces that are suitable for all workers and any guests. McLennan Group created a new office space complete with separate meeting and communications rooms as well as a fresh and relaxing kitchen and break area.
In work environments that have been deemed essential throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, such as WARS, it is absolutely vital that air conditioning works to ensure a well ventilated workplace that can help to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In order to ensure this, improve air quality and ultimately create a comfortable working environment, HVAC systems were installed throughout the office. New and compliant fire alarm systems were fitted by McLennan Group engineers to protect employees and visitors whilst adhering to current regulatory standards. The office was also fitted with a wellness centre, gymnasium, reception, comms rooms, a two person lift and a teaching and training area complete with a viewing gallery over the plant. With attention to detail and consideration, McLennan Group also ensured the lady’s, gentlemen’s and children’s WC’s were accessible, plus the disabled toilet with shower room was fitted with Doc’m Pack furniture and alarms. The Doc’m Pack furniture ensures the building is compliant with the latest regulations whilst also being ergonomically designed for maximum comfort during use. With the government reporting that 14 million people in the UK have some sort of disability it’s imperative workplaces have suitable access for people with disabilities. Multiple disabled refuge areas were installed complete with Emergency Voice Call (EVC) systems that linked to the central control unit in the main entrance. The mechanical and electrical services of the WARS fit-out were designed and installed by McLennan Group in a turnkey approach to ensure the services were fit for purpose, legal and most importantly safe. The project was completed in a timely manner and within budget for the client, Conform North West. The office is now up and running and a vital component of the WARS station in Preston.
